There isn’t a time quite like the holiday season, which is full of fun, family, and all the delicious food you could ever eat. Since I was too lazy—what you’re supposed to be during the break, in my opinion—to write a post on each specific holiday, I’ve decided to put everything from Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years into this single post.

*Brownie points if you sang the “grandkid round-up” line from Encanto when reading the title of this post. My family has been just as impacted and obsessed with Encanto as the general population, and it clearly shows*

Thanksgiving

We had a smaller group than normal for Thanksgiving this year. Since my grandparents moved away this summer, we lost our main hub for family get togethers.

I’m so happy that they found a community and environment that they love, but the loss of family has been a bit rough. Change is never easy, but we were able to make the most of it and find the joy in having our own little gathering. I was especially thankful for facetime  this year that enabled us to share Thanksgiving dinner with my brother and sister-in-law (who had to work that day) over the screen.

Christmas

YAY CHRISTMAS!!! My sister was home from grad school,  and brother and sister-in-law came to visit for a few days right before Christmas.

We had an awesome time being together. We played board games, decorated cookies, battled each other on Mario Kart, wore matching pajamas courtesy of my grandparents (who drove down to see us on Christmas day!), and had some epic gifts given on Christmas morning.

     .

As usual, I gave every person a book I thought they’d enjoy (I made two tiktoks about them if you’re curious), which is one my favorite traditions that I started a couple of years ago. I got an epic Jurassic Park insulated cup and license plate frame, some BTS merch—figures, t-shirt, cup, and Army Bomb (that still hasn’t come yet, to my great sadness)—, a keyboard for my computer, and other wonderful presents. The best gift I gave this year was one my sister and I went in on together. We got my mom a Cricut, which she has been wanting for YEARS. We’re all pretty excited about it and I expect we’ll have a plethora of new stickers in our house over the coming months.

We also recreated this adorable picture:

New Years Eve

Two of my cousins came down for the night to celebrate with us, which was so fun! We ate a fantastic meal, made a tiktok together because we think we’re hilarious, played a homemade version of telestrations—like telephone, but with drawings—watched the live stream of the fireworks at Magic Kingdom, waved sparklers around, shared our new years resolutions, drank sparkling something or other (not my favorite since I don’t like anything carbonated, but drank anyway for the sake of tradition), and sang Auld Lang Syne together while I played the ukulele (I may or may not have forced everyone to participate in that last bit).

Overall, it was a great time and I have average sized hopes for 2022. Considering how bad 2021 was, not just globally but personally, I’m hoping that with this year there’s nowhere to go but up.

We’ll see.

I hope you had an incredible holiday season of your own, and wish you a wonderful 2022. Maybe this will be the year we all find our towels. Here’s hoping.
